How to Get Involved

VOLUNTEERING WITH THE CHILDREN
The Next Generation provides a variety of opportunities to get involved with our local Children’s Hospital.  Listed below are a few of our volunteer opportunities.

Deck the Halls
On a seasonal basis, The Next Generation decorates the three pediatric floors at The Children’s Hospital. Typically, the decorating takes place on a weekday morning from 9am-12pm.  The Deck the Halls program brings a little fun to those white institutional walls and smiles amongst the children, families and hospital staff throughout the hospital halls. Contact Sarah Canfield at decorate@nextgenerationsavannah.com to learn more.

Birthday Club
Unfortunately, at times children end up in the hospital on their birthday.  Volunteers are asked to buy a small gift ($10 or less), pick up a small cake from Rum Runners and deliver the treats to the hospital.  The Birthday Club is a great way to give a child a special day in a not so special place! If you would like to added to the email alert list, contact Ruth Kleinpeter at celebrations@nextgenerationsavannah.com

End of Chemo and Radiation Celebration
For a child diagnosed with cancer, their final chemo or radiation treatment is reason to celebrate. Our volunteers pick up a small cake from Rum Runners, purchase a small gift ($10 or less), and deliver the treasures to the hospital.  The End of Chemo and Radiation Celebrations focus on the child and more importantly their cancer-free future! If you would like to added to the email alert list, contact Ruth Kleinpeter at celebrations@nextgenerationsavannah.com

The Playroom
Located on the general pediatric floor, The Playroom provides patients with games, crafts, movies, and books to make their hospital stay more comfortable. The Child Life staff is always seeking volunteers to work in the playroom giving patients’ parents a much deserved break. The children love The Playroom and the volunteers that give of their time. Contact Britt Buckler or Cindy Swan at playroom@nextgenerationsavannah.com to get involved.

Supper Club
Volunteer groups will provide meals for families with children in-treatment at the hospital. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and even snacks! Contact Jenny Griffith, Emily Moody, and Marci Roberts at meals@nextgenerationsavannah.com to learn more.

Education
One of the goals of The Next Generation is to ensure that all local parents are provided as much information about topics relevant to their children.
The Next Generation will publish a bi-monthly newsletter that will be mailed to all members.
We plan to hold several pediatric healthcare educational socials each year that will provide a great way for parents to learn more from the pediatric experts in Savannah. After a short program, parents will have the opportunity to socialize and talk with local physicians who participate in the event.

For general questions about volunteering please contact Julie McLeod and Fef Nolen at volunteer@nextgenerationsavannah.com .
